Important Notices
- Check your emails regularly. That is where important information will be passed on.
- Most degree programs have mandatory foundational courses known as GOPs (Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung). Exams in these subjects must be attempted by a specific semester. The specific GOP modules and their deadlines are defined in their respective SPO (Study and Examination Regulations) of the degree program.
- Where possible, take your exams as detailed in the study plan, otherwise admission requirements may not be met.
- Take advantage of the university’s offerings: university sports of the FAU, writing center, language center, student counseling, Ohm-choir, … and obviously the student council!

Tips & Tricks
- Many Springer-Verlag books are available for free on the library website.
- Connect with others, for example with WhatsApp groups.
- Look for a study group to share important information.
- Review missed lecture content in a timely manner, for example with help from the study group.
- Attend the exercise classes, as they are relevant to the exam.
- Write your own formula sheet and work with it.
- Create a file structure for lectures and use it the whole semester.
- An orderly structure of lecture resources and your lectures notes is very helpful when it becomes time to revise for exams.
- Attend tutorials, where students from higher semesters will explain practice questions to you.
- Remind each other about important dates and deadlines.
- Do not underestimate the first semester. Try to follow the study plan and postpone as few exams as possible!

You will find these dates on the EFI-intranet (requires the VPN) and in the calendar of the university.
Software
You should set up the following on your laptop/mobile phone (instructions to which can be found on the website of the Central IT):
- VPN: Access to the university network/intranet.
- V-drive: University public network drive. Large files will be uploaded here by professors.
- U-drive: Private network drive. Connect to the university account.
- FAU-Box: Cloud storage
- Email client to check university emails on the phone.
- EFI git-Server (login with university credentials)
